Shrewsbury Business Improvement District (BID) has found its Christmas star whose musical masterpiece will accompany this year's video to promote the town's festive offer.

Gareth Rhys Jones, a 34-year-old guitar and piano teacher from Coton Hill in Shrewsbury, was selected by a panel of judges for his uplifting and catchy piece 'This is Your Christmas'.

Shrewsbury Business Improvement District (BID) has thrown down the gauntlet to all local bands and solo artists by offering the one-off chance to produce a piece of music that will accompany this year's Christmas video filmed in Shrewsbury.

Local composers are invited to submit their musical masterpieces via WeTransfer, where each entry must be at least 30 seconds in length, Christmassy in theme, with optional lyrics.

A new video showcasing some of Shrewsbury's best independent businesses and one-off attractions has been launched by Shrewsbury Business Improvement District (BID) to promote the town.

The short film, a Summer in Shrewsbury, gives a fast and fresh perspective on the town centre, showcasing its quirky character and originality, from the iconic River Severn to the town's true hidden gems - Darwin and the Dingle included.

Shrewsbury has once again been considered blooming lovely after winning a Gold award for its floral displays - and being crowned category winner by Heart of England in Bloom.

The results were announced in a ceremony at Theatre Severn on Thursday 11th September. The town was awarded Gold and nominated category winner in the Small City Category for centres with a population of between 35,001 and 100,000.

Shrewsbury is full of finds and now you can explore five for free as part of the national Heritage Open Days event between 11th and 14th September. Heritage Open Days celebrates the country's architecture and culture by offering free access to places that are usually closed to the public or charge for admission. In Shrewsbury the event means a rare meeting with a Lord on top of a 133ft column, trips to the top of a tower and a discovery in an ancient guild hall.

Following the success of free all-day car parking introduced by Shrewsbury BID over the May bank holiday, NCP has joined the scheme for Sunday 25th and Monday 26th August, making it a town centre wide initiative.

The two-part, free parking scheme with NCP, Shropshire Council and the owners of privately managed car parks was created to encourage visitors to Shrewsbury town centre over the bank holiday and help support traders.

The arrival of the Shrewsbury Flower Show was given a warm welcome by Shrewsbury BID this morning with two areas of the town centre transformed with an explosion of flowers and grass benches.

The statues of Charles Darwin and Clive of India woke up to a bright and flowery start in a stunt aimed to encourage visitors from the Flower Show to spend time and discover what the town centre has to offer.

Kirsten Henly has been appointed BID Manager of the Shrewsbury Business Improvement District (BID) which became operational at the beginning of April 2014, with a £1.6 million budget to help boost trading for the 500 Shrewsbury town centre businesses it incorporates.
