From buzzing cafes and veg sellers to jolly butchers and talented craftspeople a new video has been launched celebrating the life of Shrewsbury Market Hall. The video has been shot by young Shrewsbury film-maker Aaron Child who wanted to capture the action, atmosphere and colour of the award-winning market.

It was commissioned by Shropshire Council and Shrewsbury Town Council, who jointly manage the market, as part of special events marking the building's 50th anniversary year.

Businesses across Shropshire are being urged to take part in what is the biggest consultation on Shropshire Council services ever launched - and are being encouraged to ask their employees to join in. The Big Conversation survey is the first phase of a five-year conversation the council wants people who live and work in Shropshire to say what council services are most important to them.

Frankwell Main car park. St. Julian's Friars car park. Abbey Foregate car park.

Raven Meadows multi-storey will be open until 9.30pm on Wednesdays until Christmas.

 

University Centre Shrewsbury world record attempt, Guiness Book of Records

The Guinness World Record for the most people performing jump squats in the same place and at the same time has hopefully been smashed with the help of University Centre Shrewsbury students. The Big Squat, which took place at Meole Brace School Science College organised by Village Water, saw 477 pupils, volunteers and representatives join together, on World Toilet Day no less, to attempt to break the current record of 378 people doing jump squats for one minute.

Shops in Shrewsbury's busy shopping centres are gearing up for the biggest shopping day of the year so far - Black Friday - with over 70 Christmas temps taken on. Retailers are bringing in extra staff and unveiling a host of offers ready for the expected avalanche of shoppers as footfall goes through the roof on Friday 27th November.

That's when the last paycheque before Christmas hits bank accounts, sparking a frenzy of shopping with retailers offering lots of bargains too.

Thousands of people gathered in Shrewsbury last night for the town's biggest Christmas Lights Switch-on event to date. The event started at 4pm when the street food festival, Eat Street opened to visitors in the grounds of St Alkmund's Church.

An improved Park and Ride service that began in Shrewsbury on 2nd November 2015 is proving popular with visitors to Shrewsbury town centre. The new service began after Shropshire Council awarded a new five-year contract to manage Shrewsbury's Park and Ride service to Arriva Midlands.

Pupils from Harlescott Junior School in Shrewsbury will be 'taking over' Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery on Friday 20th November as part of Kids in Museums Takeover Day - a national campaign run by the organisation Kids in Museums. The children will be taking part in a museum workshop and producing a trail to help young visitors explore the museum.

Shrewsbury is preparing for a White Christmas welcome this festive period as the town becomes 'Snowsbury' with new street signs and cool Yule fun. A giant snow globe, where you can step into a winter scene, light projected snowflakes on prominent buildings and street performers will all be part of the Snowsbury-inspired activities from Shrewsbury BID.
