University Centre Shrewsbury's first work-based learning placement is underway as students play a growing part in Shropshire businesses and services. Health and Exercise Science undergraduate Christian Heenan is the first student to start a placement in a county organisation as part of his degree studies.

All undergraduates are being given placement opportunities to ensure they are fully equipped for the workplace and are able to contribute to a range of Shropshire activities.

Shropshire Council is offering shoppers in Shrewsbury free parking on Wednesday nights in the run-up to Christmas, starting on 18 November - the night of the town's Christmas Cracker and Lights Switch On event. On that day, and every Wednesday evening until Christmas, people can park for free in the following Shropshire Council-owned long-stay car parks from 4pm.

A gunging for staff, cake sale, leg waxing and balloon popping for prizes will be among the activities taking place at University Centre Shrewsbury's Guildhall to raise money for Children in Need. Students have planned an afternoon of fundraising for the BBC charity at the learning and research base on Wednesday November 11th, open to all.

More than 200 people gathered at University Centre Shrewsbury's learning and research base for the Shropshire re-launch of "England's greatest community history project". The University Centre hosted the Victoria County History (VCH) Shropshire re-launch on Saturday October 31, at Guildhall in Frankwell Quay, bringing together both academics and amateur history enthusiasts from across England.

The Mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor Miles Kenny, is calling upon members of the public to join him in attending two Remembrance events taking place in the town. A Remembrance Sunday service will be held at St Chad's Church on November 8th at 9.45am.

Friday 30th October 2015 marked the end of Shropshire Council's consultation on the future of swimming in Shrewsbury. Over the five-month consultation period, the council received over 2,000 responses from individuals, partners, clubs, groups, councillors and businesses across the county on the proposed seven different pool options.

Shrewsbury's festive season is set to kick start with a bang as the town's Christmas Cracker event returns, bigger and better than ever. The switch-on is being organised by Shrewsbury Town Council, in partnership with Shrewsbury Shopping Centres, Shropshire Council and Shrewsbury BID, which is sponsoring the event.

The Shrewsbury BID team have appointed local film company SMNFilm to produce this year's Christmas film. Cinematographer Tom Middleton and Producer Miche Parkinson will be filming various seasonal scenes in and around Shrewsbury town centre in November. The team are looking to encourage local people of all ages to get involved.
