Annual attendance at Shrewsbury's Theatre Severn has increased by more than 10%, the venue has confirmed. Ticket sales for year ending 31 March 2015 totalled 159,936, an increase of more than 15,000 on the previous 12 months.

Shrewsbury will soon be awash with colour as the Town Council's summer planting scheme gets firmly underway. The mammoth task to bring a cacophony of colour to the town centre began last week and will see more than 300,000 home-grown blooms planted out in various locations.

2015 sees the anniversary of a very special little girl. She's one hundred and fifty years old but hasn't aged a day. Who is she? Alice Liddell, but she is better known to most of us as 'Alice in Wonderland'. Hundreds of events are happening around the country to celebrate Alice's birthday including a staging of 'Crocodiles & Cream' (the life story of Lewis Caroll) at Theatre Severn this June.

The new flat rate of £1 for Sunday parking in Shrewsbury town centre's public and private car parks starts this weekend (7th June) with high hopes it will boost visitor numbers and the local economy. Shrewsbury BID believes the simpler, cheaper tariff will prove a winner and encourage more people to come to town.

A trader at Shrewsbury Market Hall is raising funds for victims of the Nepal quakes by holding workshops in the art of felt-making. Teresa Tant, who runs Colour4Felts in the Market Hall, is offering mini felt ball sessions for members of the public in exchange for donations to her appeal. She is raising funds for her felt suppliers and producers, including Felt Ball Rugs Nepal, with whom she works directly to stock her business.

Shrewsbury BID is launching a new initiative to help businesses in the town save money on their bills and reduce their operating costs. Specialist consultants Meercat Associates have been appointed to negotiate better deals for Shrewsbury BID members on their utilities, telecoms, waste and recycling services in a free initiative for businesses.

Students are celebrating their place in the history of University Centre Shrewsbury after completing the first course. The classes have finished and all the assignments have been handed in for the Certificate in Management Studies (CMS) course.

Shropshire Council has launched a four-month consultation to seek people's views on the future of swimming in Shrewsbury. The population of Shrewsbury is changing - it's generally getting older and less active. The county will have significant growth over the next few decades, with a large amount of new housing being built.

Five new board directors have been announced by the Shrewsbury Business Improvement District (BID) to help deliver projects and services set out in its five year business plan and reflect the priorities of the sectors they represent. The new directors appointed to the board are Mike Dalton, Stop.
