Charity concert, Shrewsbury

Tickets are selling well for two special concerts featuring leading musicians from throughout Europe which are being staged in Shropshire this month.

The events will be held in Shrewsbury Abbey on Saturday 23rd April and Sunday 24th and are the highlights of the Mayor of Shrewsbury’s charity concert weekend which aims to raise money for three local good causes.

Acoustic Boutique of The Square in Shrewsbury and Left for Dead of the town’s Wyle Cop are joining forces to mark Record Store Day on 16th April.

“Inspirational”, “thought-provoking” and “a wonderful highlight” are just some of the words used to describe a study day on Charles Darwin’s childhood garden organised by University Centre Shrewsbury (UCS) and Shropshire Wildlife Trust.

People shared the feedback after being invited to take part in the unique event in Shrewsbury, focused on the childhood garden of the English naturalist whose theory of natural selection became the foundation of modern evolutionary studies.

Broadcaster and heritage campaigner Loyd Grossman CBE will be welcomed to University Centre Shrewsbury (UCS) this month as part of a new series of free lectures.

Dr Grossman will launch the Rowley’s Heritage Lectures with a discussion on ‘A New Future for Heritage’ on Wednesday 20th April, 2016. The lecture will run from 7pm to 8.30pm at Rowley’s House in Barker Street, Shrewsbury.

‘The Bard’ himself popped into a Shropshire shop this week to try out a £2,000 pen created especially for him.

William Shakespeare, aka thespian Bill Hurst, called into Write Here in Shrewsbury’s High Street to view the special writing instrument as part of this month’s commemorations to mark the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death.
