Renowned elephant conservationist and wildlife television presenter, Saba Douglas-Hamilton, will undertake a 15 date tour during April and May 2016. Known to millions of television viewers for This Wild Life and Big Cat Diaries, Saba will entertain audiences with exciting animal stories and intimate behind the scenes tales of life in Kenya with her young family.

Shrewsbury BID has created a new-look street map which is being launched this week by Shrewsbury Tourism Association, in its 2016 town map and visitor guide. The detailed street map was commissioned by Shrewsbury BID to help visitors explore the town centre and its varied attractions and areas of interest. 100,000 copies have been published and will be available from shops, restaurants, accommodation providers, attractions and VIC's throughout Shrewsbury and Shropshire.

A University Centre Shrewsbury (UCS) leader has thanked community members, students and partner organisations for their ideas and enthusiasm as a trailblazing term draws to a close. The autumn 2015 term has marked a series of firsts for the University Centre.

The doors were opened to Guildhall, the learning and research base in Frankwell Quay, and Mardol House, the new student accommodation, nearby in Shrewsbury town centre.

Nominations are being sought to celebrate those unsung heroes who have made an outstanding contribution to the town of Shrewsbury. The Mayor, Councillor Miles Kenny, is asking businesses, organisations and residents to make submissions for Shrewsbury's annual civic awards, designed to highlight those who have gone above and beyond for the benefit of the town.

A Shrewsbury music venue has a special Valentine's Day gig lined up for next month. Henry Tudor House, situated off Wyle Cop, is looking forward to welcoming two talented singer songwriters from the US on 14th February.

Ernie Halter and his friend Tony Lucca are performing only three concerts in the UK and two in America this spring and have chosen Shrewsbury due to a special connection with the town.

Shrewsbury BID and Shropshire Society of Architects have called in experts in architecture and urban planning to lead a public debate on the future of the town's Quarry Swimming Pool. The open meeting on Thursday 4th February at University Centre Shrewsbury, Guildhall, will consider the importance of having centrally located leisure facilities for local people and for socially and economically sustainable town centres.

The Leader of Shrewsbury Town Council says he is confident members have set a balanced budget that will safeguard local services, whilst also freezing Council Tax for the fourth year running. Leader of the Council Alan Mosley said he was pleased to be able to present a financial plan for the coming year that would ensure the quality and standard of local services are protected for Shrewsbury residents.

A new initiative has been launched in Shrewsbury to encourage people to donate money directly to local homelessness charities, rather than giving it to someone begging in the town's streets. The Alternative Giving scheme has been set up by the Team Shrewsbury partnership, as many people who beg are not actually homeless or sleeping rough, and many beg to feed a drug or alcohol habit.

It aims to ensure that money goes direct to groups that help the homeless in Shrewsbury.

The arrival of superfast broadband at one of Shrewsbury's leading commercial sites is set to give a big boost to business in the town. BT has just enabled fibre broadband on Shrewsbury Business Park after several years of planning.

Matt Sandford, managing director of Pure Telecom, which recently moved to larger premises on the business park, said that his company was now accepting orders to provide this broadband service to neighbouring companies.

A range of quirky products produced by a Shrewsbury woman is now on sale in the town. Linda Edwards, an illustrator based in Quarry Place, launched 'Sunny Side Art' to celebrate the town she loves and is expanding the selection of products every year.

Mugs, cards, tea towels and notebooks, showcasing Shrewsbury's diverse range of architecture, are all on sale at Write Here in the town's High Street and are proving popular this year.
