An exciting programme of free events and activities will be on offer across Shropshire from this Thursday 8th September to Sunday 11th September as part of the annual national Heritage Open Days celebration.

The programme includes a chance to see sites which are not normally open to the public as well as tours, talks, film screenings, living history re-enactments and exhibitions.

During the four days, Shropshire Council is offering:

It’s the end of an era as fellow traders and loyal customers bid farewell to two longstanding traders who are retiring after more than a decade at Shrewsbury Market Hall.

Graham and Sue Mann, who run Sweet Pea & Gem Leathers at the indoor market, have decided the time is right to hang up their money belts and spend more time at home with their family.

It may be a million miles from rural Shropshire but the majesty of Africa is coming to the county later this year.  Respected photographer Harry Hook will be bringing breath-taking images of the amazing continent to Shrewsbury’s Theatre Severn this October when he will share photographs and memories of his time amongst the African people.

Relate relationship counsellors based in Shrewsbury and right across Shropshire are preparing themselves for an anticipated spike in calls this September in the immediate post-holiday period - in line with national trends.

The charity – which offers a wide range of expert counselling for individuals, couples and families - saw a nine per cent increase in calls last year and is ready for a similar onslaught this year.

In 2013 and again in 2014, Elio was invited to ‘fill Billy Joel’s shoes’, starring in five very special reunion concerts in the USA with Joel’s original 1971-72 touring band, recreating the historic Sigma Sounds live recordings.

This incredible honour inspired Elio to fulfil a lifetime ambition of creating a theatre show showcasing the wonderful songbook of the six-time Grammy award winner, Billy Joel. And so, 'The Billy Joel songbook performed by Elio Pace and his band’ was born.

A chance to step back into Shrewsbury’s past and explore amazing places free of charge, as well as spaces usually closed to the public, is offered as part of the national Heritage Open Days event between 8th and 11th September.

Visitors can go behind the scenes, scale heights and experience history in an initiative which celebrates the country’s architecture and culture by giving free access to places that are usually closed or charge for admission.

Fake Festivals are the UK’s only Tribute festival, they have become a nationwide success with locations up and down the country and now in its 10th season and with more dates than ever before we have decided to bring the show to Shrewsbury.
