Two talented Shrewsbury hairdressers have been chosen from hundreds of applicants across the country for an exclusive scholarship.

Lauren Foskett and Becca Paulette, who both work at the Toni & Guy salon in Castle Street, are amongst only 12 individuals selected for the mentoring programme.

They will now spend a year as members of the ‘The Breakthrough Team Xtra’ which is a special collaboration between Toni & Guy and L’Oréal.

In a talk taking place on Thursday, April 6 at 6pm at University Centre Shrewsbury (UCS), Dr Simon Brown and John Richardson of the university incubator partnership SETSquared will introduce the ICURe Innovation-to-Commercialisation programme, share the findings from their pilot, and discuss the potential impact of a national roll-out.

An oil painting of a local builder, John Straphen, is returning to Shrewsbury after spending nearly 200 years in a small town in Australia and is to be donated to Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery.

Straphen became the builder of Lord Hill’s column in 1815 after the death of John Simpson and built the staircase inside the column opposite Shirehall.

A Shropshire spiritual group is fighting back against the culture of doom and gloom that has gripped the country by starting up a new multi-faith initiative: The Greenpoint Movement.  The movement has been joined by volunteers across the West Midlands, with members of different spiritual communities banding together to organise a ‘Sacred Gathering’ on the Summer Solstice with the aim of bringing a message of hope.

A leading Shropshire telecoms company has just been awarded a top industry accolade for the third year running.

Pure Telecom, based on Shrewsbury Business Park, has received the 2017 award from its operational partner O2 and has been recognised in the category which examines digital excellence.

The national award is part of O2's approach to rewarding a partner's high level of digital knowledge and expertise, instead of ranking businesses by their scale and size alone.

New Year resolutions start with the greatest of intentions but are notoriously difficult to maintain, but one company from Shropshire has succeeded by working up a sweat to stick to their task.

Twenty-five staff members of Rybrook BMW and MINI of Shrewsbury meet at 7am each Monday morning for an hour’s workout at neighbouring Simply Gym on Sundorne Retail Park.

Last year, the UK became the first country in the world to allow mitochondrial replacement therapy, a medical technical that can allow prospective parents to avoid passing on ‘faulty’ genes that can cause disease to their children. But it didn’t happen overnight – medical, ethical and political powers debated for around a decade before the technique was given the go-ahead.
