A reading group at University Centre Shrewsbury (UCS) will consider the importance of singer-songwriter Bob Dylan’s work in the light of his recent Nobel Prize for Literature award.

Dr Giulia Miller will host the free event at Guildhall, UCS’s teaching and research base, on Saturday September 9, 2017, from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

Shrewsbury Market Hall is gearing up for its second monthly Saturday late night opening on September 2.

Bars, cafes, restaurants and a selection of retail stalls will be open up until 10pm.

Market facilities manager Kate Gittins hailed the first regular late night, held on August 5, a “resounding success”.

Acclaimed Canadian indie-folk music band The Fugitives will pay a gig at The Lion Hotel, Shrewsbury on Wednesday 04 October as part of a three-week UK tour.

New appointments have been made as part of a county building company’s expansion plans.

Vicky Burton (27), joins Shrewsbury-based Galliers Homes as a quantity surveyor and will be working on the firm’s sites throughout Shropshire.

Vicky, of Telford, has five years’ experience in the housing sector, starting in the industry as an assistant quantity surveyor for a national company following a QS degree at Wolverhampton University.

Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery are delighted to be offering FREE entry for children from Saturday 26 August 2017 until Friday 1 September 2017.

Children up to the age of 17 will be given free entry to Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery where they can explore the exciting and varied history of Shrewsbury and Shropshire, as well as the current special exhibition, Antarctica: Life in hostile land.

In celebration of the Heritage Open Days, Shropshire Museums and Archives are waiving entry fees and putting on special events to create a unique visitor experience.

Running from Thursday 7 September until Sunday 10 September 2017, Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery, Shrewsbury Castle, Shropshire Archives and Acton Scott Historic Working Farm, are each offering free entry and special events to visitors.

A Shrewsbury telecoms company has boosted the phone signal for thousands of people in the town.

Pure Telecom has arranged for an O2 transmitter to be installed on Shrewsbury Business Park.

With a radius of up to six miles, the mast will vastly improve signal for huge numbers of employees at offices there, as well as residents and visitors in the surrounding area.

Shrewsbury has won the bid to host the 10th UK Recovery Walk in 2018.

The announcement was made over the last weekend (Saturday 29 July 2017) at this year’s host winners party in Blackpool.

Shropshire’s UK Recovery Walk campaign was launched to encourage residents and organisations across the county and the West Midlands to vote for Shrewsbury to be the host town for the event.
