Two well-known Shropshire organisations have joined forces to support the first national initiative to offer an ethical shopping alternative to Black Friday.

Resale and recycling social enterprise Reviive along with Severn Hospice will be promoting Buy Nothing New Day on Friday 24 November. In addition Reviive will be offering a ten percent discount to all[jc1]  customers purchasing from either of its outlets in Oswestry and Shrewsbury.

A Shropshire businessman has helped to develop an exclusive limited edition fountain pen - in partnership with Italian designers.

John Hall, who owns Write Here in Shrewsbury’s High Street, is thought to be the only pen shop proprietor in the country to have undertaken such a venture.

Shrewsbury artisan bakery Bread And Loaf is celebrating a silver gong for one of its most popular loaves in the prestigious World Bread Awards.

The bakery, based in Castle Gates, won a silver award for its speciality  ‘Shropshire Whey’ loaf, awarded in the Great British White category of the competition.

The unique loaf is baked using whey from celebrated Shropshire cheesemakers Appleby’s, based at Marchamley, near Whitchurch.

Shrewsbury Market Hall is running a series of festive late nights in the lead up to Christmas.

They kick off on Wednesday November 15 when stalls and restaurants will be open until 9pm for the Shrewsbury Christmas lights switch-on and Christmas Cracker event in the town.

The evening will include a line-up of live bands starting with Redkix Acoustic Duo at 5.30pm, followed by guitarist Alan Jaggs at 6.15pm, the Sunflower Saxes at 7pm and Shropshire Ukulele Massive at 7.45pm.

Experts on rural issues across the country will come together at University Centre Shrewsbury later this month for a seminar exploring the challenges and opportunities of rural service delivery.

The Rural Places, Rural Challenges seminar is being organised by the Rural Services Network (RSN) and will take place at Guildhall, Frankwell Quay, on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 from 10.15am to 2.45pm.
