The Little Dessert Shop has opened a highly anticipated new dessert parlour in Shrewsbury, creating 25 new jobs and helping to breathe new life and vitality into the west end of the town.

It is the ninth shop for the rapidly expanding dessert phenomenon that has taken the West Midlands by storm over the last two years.

On Wednesday November 8th, The Hive in Shrewsbury is hosting two festive pottery workshops for children and adults, giving people the opportunity to create their own Christmas decorations in time for the festive period.

The Festive Pottery for children aged 4-9 years will take place from 3:45PM – 4:45PM and the Adult Festive Pottery takes place from 6:45PM – 9:15PM.

The influence made by two eminent individuals on their communities will be celebrated with honorary degrees from the University of Chester.

At 10.30am in Ceremony 7, Jonathan Slater will receive a Master of Business Administration, for his outstanding contribution to the city of Chester as the former Managing Director of The Grosvenor Hotel and board member of Marketing Cheshire.

A free event is taking place at University Centre Shrewsbury (UCS) to discuss the Victorian classic novel, The History of Sir Richard Calmady by Lucas Malet.

The book, written in 1901, was outsold only by Rudyard Kipling’s Kim and caused much controversy, prompting one commentator to remark that “certain passages of it are quite as bad and immoral as anything that Zola has written.”

Ten percent of the profit from a forthcoming play at Theatre Severn will be donated to Severn Hospice, it was announced today.

Shropshire Drama Company’s (SDC) production of Alan Ayckbourn’s Bedroom Farce runs from 08 to 11 November at Theatre Severn’s Walker Theatre.

International authors, poets, storytellers and historians will descend on Shrewsbury from November 24 to 26 for the town’s second annual Festival of Literature.

Among the headline names taking part are the artist and poet Frieda Hughes, archaeologist and TV presenter Alex Langlands and author and screenwriter Stef Penney.
