Find out more at University Centre Shrewsbury events

  • University Centre Shrewsbury, study in Shrewsbury

University Centre Shrewsbury (UCS) is inviting people through the doors for a range of events.

People can learn more about studying and teaching at UCS at an upcoming open evening or explore a choice of topics as part of the institution’s public events programme.

Anyone who would like to find out more about studying at UCS is urged to join staff and current students at the open evening on Thursday 9th June.

The evening is being held at Guildhall, Frankwell Quay, Shrewsbury, SY3 8HQ, UCS’s learning and research base, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.

Professor Anna Sutton, Provost of University Centre Shrewsbury said: “The event offers the chance to experience what life would be like studying for undergraduate, postgraduate or Continuous Professional Development (CPD) qualifications. Course subjects range from History and Psychology to Health and Exercise Science.

“During the open evening, you will have the opportunity to visit the fantastic study spaces, meet the course tutors and learn more about the course you are interested in.

“Visitors can also take a look around the new accommodation at nearby Mardol House and chat to current students.”

To book a place go to the University Centre Shrewsbury website.

On the same evening, people can discover more about becoming a Visiting Lecturer or Guest Lecturer for UCS’s suite of business and management programmes.

UCS is looking to create a panel of suitably qualified people for these programmes, to contribute to undergraduate teaching, marking and administration from September 2016. Examples of programmes include BA Business Management, BA Events and Festivals Management, BSc Banking and Finance and BSc Sport Management.

Graduates, ideally postgraduates, with experience of training, teaching, marking and preparation within a business and management discipline are invited to come along to discuss the opportunity between 6pm and 7pm. To book a place go to: vlopenevening.eventbrite.co.uk. For further enquiries please contact Jon Britten, Director of Business, at [email protected].

However, people do not have to study or teach at UCS to get involved in the life of the institution.

UCS offers an extensive programme of events, many of which are free and open to everyone.

The events span UCS’s learning and research areas, which are aligned to local, regional and national needs, including Medicine and Health and Sustainable Business and Community Development.

Upcoming free lectures include ‘Sport and Exercise: Perceptions and Realities in Health’ on 22nd June; ‘Charlotte Bronte’s Legacy: From Jane Eyre to Rebecca and Beyond’ on July 2 and ‘Economic Development in the 21st Century - Challenges for Shrewsbury: Reconciling Continuity with Change’ on 27th July. For further details, including times and locations, please go to the University Centre Shrewsbury website or email [email protected].

Professor Sutton said: “UCS is proud to play a role in the cultural life of Shropshire and it’s been great to meet so many people at our public events during the year.

“There are still a diverse selection of events to choose from this year – and the programme is growing all the time. We hope you find something of interest and we look forward to welcoming you to the University Centre.”

UCS is a distinctive institution, focused on high-quality teaching and research, fostering entrepreneurship, contributing to the community and, ultimately, making a global impact.

A partnership between the University of Chester and Shropshire Council, it provides the ideal setting to study undergraduate and postgraduate courses, as well as offering unique opportunities for research and CPD.
