  • London Studio Centre’s Jazz Dance Company

This year the Jazz Dance Company is celebrating its 20th-anniversary tour and are excited to be performing Unexpected Tales at the Theatre Severn, Shrewsbury on Tuesday 21st June 2016 at 7.30pm.

This exciting dance company explores the dramatic shades of emotion conjured through the Fairy tales and Folk stories which we have shared for generations. From the joyful and light-hearted to the ridiculous and even sinister world of the Grimm Brothers, these tales stir our imaginations, ignite creativity and invoke passions.

Unexpected Tales explores the light and shade of these stories, with some unexpected twists, told through the exciting and athletic genres of jazz dance and musical theatre. The Jazz Dance Company’s fantastic young talent and high--‐energy performance combined with choreography from leading choreographers from stage and screen results in one night of dance indulgence for families and dance fans alike.

The company present work by leading choreographers from today’s dance and theatre scene, including Kevan Allen (Kylie Minogue, Brit Awards), Ryan François (Strictly Come Dancing, So You Think You Can Dance), Carrie Anne Ingrouille (Zoonation, Street Dance 3D) Nikki Trow The X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent, Little Mix), all crafted into a dance spectacular by the company’s Artistic Director Robbie O’Reilly. The show offers audiences the chance to see the hottest new talent in jazz dance, in a vibrant programme of works, ranging from the sensuality and lyricism of contemporary jazz to modern street dance and the rhythmic complexities oftap.

The Jazz Dance Company was formed in 1996 by London Studio Centre, one of Britain’s foremost colleges for the performing arts, to provide its dancers with performing experience and the opportunity to work with established choreographers within the industry. Graduates can be seen performing with West End shows and leading dance companies, as well as being hugely successful in the commercial dance sector and as choreographers and directors.

The tour operates as an opportunity for aspiring dancers and dance fans alike to witness some of the UK’s finest and rising choreographers’ work performed by talented young dancers.
