Market Hall to host late-night Summer Celebration on 1st July

Shrewsbury Market Hall is throwing open its doors for a Summer Celebration evening on Saturday 1st July when its restaurants, bars and other attractions will open until 10pm.

The event follows the huge success of its Lifestyle Festival and a deluge of requests by members of the public for more events like it.

The market’s cafes and restaurants, ranging from tapas and Thai to Chinese and seafood, will be serving up special menus and themed dishes.

The Bird’s Nest Café will host an 80’s themed movie and dress-up evening, along with ‘80s-style cocktails and a prize for the most inventive ‘80s costume. Indian Street Food will also open for the evening, serving freshly-made curry dishes.

Bars open for the event include Gindifferent gin parlour, Iron & Rose pop-up wine bar and a craft beer pop-up, based at the Market Buffet which will be transformed to give a taste of a Caribbean-style shanty bar for the evening.

There will also be music and many of the market’s other stalls will stay open until 7pm or later.

The celebration will include a performance at noon by Adele tribute artist Libby Gliksman, accompanied by pianist Adam Knight to launch the installation of the Revive free-to-play street piano in the Market Hall.

Organic natural henna tattoos will be available at Divine from 10am to 8pm, Charika Creations, known for their decorative celebration cakes, will hold cake tastings and wool craft specialists Ewe & Ply will hold a ‘Mind Your Tension’ knitting workshop from 2pm to 4pm and a Wool Fiddlers United gathering where crafters can bring along their own project to work on and enjoy advice, Prosecco and canapés from 4pm.

“The Summer Celebration is another opportunity for people to enjoy all the creative food and drink attractions of the Market Hall late into the evening as well as experience many of the market’s other attractions,” said Facilities Manager Kate Gittins.

“The Lifestyle Festival last month was a hugely popular event. Around 2,500 people passed through the doors during the course of the day and evening with many of our visitors asking us to stage more events like it. The traders really enjoyed it, so decided to organise a Summer Celebration in response to the public support.”
