New Shrewsbury BID film goes live today

  • Shrewsbury BID video, Meet Shrewsbury. Independent traders.

An exciting new polaroid style video production inspired by some of Shrewsbury's well-known artisans and independent retailers will launch today in time for the Bank Holiday Weekend. Commissioned by Shrewsbury BID, 'Meet Shrewsbury: The characters, the faces, the places' is a series of fast-paced photographs showing local businesses, their owners and staff, juxtaposed with memorable images of the town centre and its historic shop fronts and architecture.

The film is the third production from Shrewsbury BID which promotes the town centre's original character and independent retail and leisure offer to Shrewsbury's thousands of followers that are connected to the town through social media channels.

It has been created by filmographer Aaron Child from Painted Life Productions and local lifestyle photographer, Victoria Macken. The voiceover which steers the narrative is by Shrewsbury based author Phil Lovesey.

The video will be launched online from 12.30pm on 22 May, when later in the day artisans appearing at Shrewsbury's first street food event, Eat Street Shrewsbury, will be bringing to life the town's original food offer in St Alkmunds.

Aaron Child said: "This film has a unique spin - it shows a collection of scenes and people which have been meticulously photographed by Victoria Macken to capture the spirit of Shrewsbury. It was inspired by the square format of social media profiles and identities as well as the nostalgia for polaroid pictures. Victoria's photographs make a really personal connection with some of the Shrewsbury's well-known and well-loved characters and the bespoke filming approach really brings to life the personalities that make the town different.

Kirsten Henly, Shrewsbury BID Manager, said: "This Friday is a big day for Shrewsbury as we celebrate the characters of the town with the launch of the video and the new street food festival, Eat Street Shrewsbury. We're thrilled to have worked with two outstanding talents in Shropshire to profile Shrewsbury; with Victoria's inspiring photography and Aaron's filmmaking creativity, we have been able to showcase the originality at the heart of Shrewsbury, in an inventive way, showing just how much our town has to offer. We're encouraging everyone to share the film and come and meet Shrewsbury's characters for themselves."

The video is being showcased on the Original Shrewsbury YouTube channel and through social media.
