Shrewsbury BID urges public to choose a charity

An online vote has been launched by Shrewsbury BID to decide which local charity will benefit from the sale of their new summer postcards.

The BID, which represents over 500 businesses in the town, has designed a series of unique “Hello from Shrewsbury” postcards, which feature some of the town centres’ people and places. Local businesses will have the option to sell the postcards throughout the summer so people can share Shrewsbury with friends and family by post and encourage them to visit. All of the money collected from the sales going to the chosen charity.

Members of Shrewsbury BID have already highlighted Severn Hospice, Hope House, The Ark, Mind Shropshire and Macmillan Cancer Support as potential beneficiaries but are calling on local people to have their say.

Seb Slater, Executive Director of Shrewsbury BID said: “We think it is really important to involve the local community by asking them to vote for the charity that is most relevant to them. Every click counts, so we’re encouraging people to go online and vote.  The postcards are a great way to share Shrewsbury’s best features as well as a snapshot of your time here. ‘Project Postcard’ is one of many summer initiatives designed to help raise the profile of the town and boost the local economy.”

Anyone who wishes to nominate or vote for a charity should visit originalshrewsbury.co.uk/charity. The charity that gains the most votes online will receive the money raised from the postcard sales at the end of the summer. Voting closes on Sunday 30th July 2017.
