Still time to make your nominations for Mayors Awards

  • Shrewsbury Town Council

There’s still a few weeks remaining to get your nominations in for the annual Mayor’s Awards.

Nominations are being sought to celebrate those unsung heroes who have made an outstanding contribution to the town of Shrewsbury.

The Mayor, Councillor Miles Kenny, is asking businesses, organisations and residents to make submissions for Shrewsbury’s annual civic awards, designed to highlight those who have gone above and beyond for the benefit of the town.

Nominations are invited in a range of categories, which will then be whittled down in true Oscar style to a shortlist, with the winners revealed on 27th April at the town’s Guildhall.

The categories are:

Built Heritage Award – acknowledges the achievements of individuals, organisations and companies that own buildings in Shrewsbury and have worked towards enhancing the built heritage. There are two categories:

  •     Single dwellings, Conversions and Minor Works Category
  •     Commercial or Residential Developments and Major Schemes Category

  •      Small Employers (under 50 employees)
  •      Not-for-Profit Organisations
  •      Young Entrepreneur

Community Award – acknowledges the work of community groups and individuals who have contributed to the social well-being of the town, from major community projects to someone who looks out for their neighbours. There are three categories:

  •     Volunteer Category

Environmental Award – acknowledges the work of organisations, community groups and individuals who have contributed to enhancing the environment, from major recycling initiatives to organising litter picking events. There are two categories:

  •     Schools Category

Tourism Award – acknowledges businesses, individuals, groups and organisations who have contributed to tourism within the town.

There is one category open to all entrants.

In addition to these six categories, which will be judged by a panel of members and officers of the Town Council, the Mayor will also present his special Commendation Awards. These are awards that are personal to the Mayor, presented to people he has met throughout the Mayoral Year that have played a key part in helping make Shrewsbury a special place to live and work.

Councillor Kenny said: “There’s always someone, somewhere, we want to do something special for as a reward for going that extra mile – the Mayor’s Awards do exactly that for our local heroes. Now’s the time to put the thinking caps on to put forward your local hero and I am really looking forward to seeing the nominations.”

Nomination forms are available to download from the Town Council’s website or for a hard copy contact the Mayor's Secretary on 01743 257655 or email [email protected]

The closing date for completed entries is 1st April.
