Fans of the wizarding world of Harry Potter are invited to a free event at University Centre Shrewsbury (UCS) to discuss the novel that started it all, and its impact on 21st Century literature.

Dr Lucy Andrew will lead a reading group meeting reflecting on JK Rowling’s first foray into the 'Potterverse', Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone - Twenty Years Later, at Rowley’s House on Saturday, October 28, from 1.30pm.

A new book which sheds fresh light shed on a powerful Shropshire trading company has been launched.

The Shrewsbury Drapers Company 1462- 2017: The Legacy, by local historian Nigel Hinton, explores the 555-year history of the Shrewsbury Drapers Company from its establishment in 1462 by charter from Edward IV.

BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards Singer of the year 2014 is heading to The Hive on Saturday 28 October.  Having spent the winter in China as British Council Musician in Residence, Bella’s spent the start of the year in the studio with her trusty musical companions creating some incredible new music.  Her gig at The Hive offers you the chance to hear this new material from her album ‘Hey Sammy’ released on 24 November.

Shrewsbury’s Depressed Cake Shop proved to be a huge success as local cafes and bakers rose to the challenge and created delicious grey cakes to raise awareness of mental health and funds for Shropshire Mind (Reg. Charity No. 1003117).

The Depressed Cake Shop raised over £250 for local mental health charity, Shropshire Mind.

University Centre Shrewsbury (UCS) will throw open its doors to the next intake of prospective students at an Open Day this month.

Students looking to start a degree course in 2018 can gain a taste of University life at the event, which takes place on Saturday, October 21, 2017. People are invited to the Open Day at the University Centre’s learning and research base, at Guildhall, Frankwell Quay, from 10am to 3pm.

On October 27th 2017, BBC Wildlife Producer & Researcher Louise Emerson is giving a talk at the Hive in Shrewsbury about her life and career with the BBC creating wildlife documentaries. The talk takes place at 1PM and costs £4 for adults, £2 for children and £2 for OAPs.
