People are invited to take a look at proposals for the next stage of University Centre Shrewsbury living accommodation after careful consideration of the best potential options for students, residents, businesses and wider partners. Morris Property Ltd and Guildhouse UK Ltd have been selected by Shropshire Council as the developer for the project, following a procurement exercise and the current conversion of part of Mardol House into student accommodation.

Following years of hard work by volunteers, thousands of photographs from Shropshire Archives are now available online. As many of the residents of the county know Shropshire is rich in heritage and, thanks to the hard work by staff and volunteers at Shropshire Council's Shropshire Archives, thousands of historic photographs of Shrewsbury and other areas of Shropshire are now available online for all to see.

Shrewsbury Market Hall marks its 50th anniversary in September and will be celebrating with a host of events and even some help from England goalkeeper Joe Hart. The Market Hall, which includes the town's 240ft clock tower, an indoor market and a ground-floor shopping centre, was hailed "the most modern building" in Shropshire when it opened in September 1965.

Owners of businesses in Shrewsbury and Shropshire who are interested in heritage are invited to join a new free network The Culture Club - business networking with a difference. The first meeting is on Thursday 24 September at 8am at Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery. The guest speaker will be Trevor Osborne of The Osborne Group, who will be revealing his plans for the former Shrewsbury prison building, which he now owns.

The Guardian newspaper has today announced that Shrewsbury is the second happiest place to live in Britain. Shrewsbury came second only to Harrogate, beating Chester, as one of the happiest places to live in a survey completed by Rightmove. Read the full article here.

St Mary's Church Discover Heritage Awards

The Churches Conservation Trust has been commended in the Association for Heritage Interpretation 2015 Discover Heritage Awards - for excellence in cultural and natural heritage interpretation in Britain and Ireland. The Visitor Welcome project at St Mary's, St Mary's street, Shrewsbury has been commended in the Museums and Historic Properties/Sites category. St Mary's is a magnificent medieval building.

Shropshire Youth, the Emerging Leaders charity

A unique partnership between Shropshire Youth, the Emerging Leaders charity and The Shrewsbury Club has been successfully piloted in Shrewsbury to help disadvantaged young people begin to achieve their potential. The Stride Out project, which began in June 2015, has provided 12 local teenagers, not in education, employment or training with the chance to learn leadership skills and improve employability skills and confidence.
