Shrewsbury’s star businesses fly the flag for Independents’ Day

Shrewsbury has thrown the spotlight on small businesses and their loyal customers as stars of the high street to celebrate Independents’ Day on Monday 4th July.

A representative group of local independent retailers and their loyal customers gathered in Shrewsbury town centre to flag up the important role they play in a diverse and successful town centre.

Hornbeam tree removal

The Hornbeam tree in the Quarry Park has had to be removed for safety reasons after it was found to be in serious, and irreversible, decline.

Some of the tree’s branches overhung the new splash park and several branches have recently fallen giving cause for concern.

Firsts for University Centre Shrewsbury and Professor of Applied Exercise Science

University Centre Shrewsbury marked another first this week when people were brought together from across the country for an Inaugural Professorial Lecture.

Professor John Buckley presented his inaugural lecture on ‘Sport and Exercise: Perceptions and Realities in Health’ on Wednesday 22nd June.

Revamped Town of Flowers Competition

Shrewsbury’s green-fingered residents are invited to enter the newly revamped Town of Flowers competition.

This year, the Shrewsbury in Bloom committee is calling on members of the public to nominate entries for the best residential front garden category. Previously entrants had been able to nominate their own garden displays.
