Thursday 8 June is a very important date for your diary – it’s not just the UK general election, it’s a chance for prospective students to come and visit the facilities and meet the staff at Shropshire’s newest provider of Higher Education, University Centre Shrewsbury (UCS).

From 5.30-7.30pm, the main teaching site of Guildhall will be open to visitors, with those interested encouraged to book a place to make the most of the event.

As part of the continuing schedule of free public talks from University Centre Shrewsbury, Dr Lucy Andrew will talk on the topic of stereotypes in children’s fiction at University Centre Shrewsbury’s Rowley’s House on Wednesday 7 June. She says: “British and American children’s literature has long been dominated by a white, middle class, heteronormative construction of childhood and has frequently been guilty of marginalising or stereotyping groups who do not fit this ideal.

One Shropshire dad could benefit from a ‘manly makeover’ thanks to an initiative being run by a county salon.

Toni & Guy in Shrewsbury, one of the town’s largest hairdressers, is running a competition to mark Father’s Day on June 18.

All entrants are asked to do is nominate their dad and tell the Toni & Guy team why they think he is the best.

An award-winning Shrewsbury artist and illustrator will be one of around 30 creative people showcasing their work at the county town’s summer ‘Open Studios’ events.

Linda Edwards, whose work includes her range of ’Sunny Side Art’ prints, gifts and cards, featuring illustrations of Shrewsbury's streets and Shropshire landmarks, will be taking part in the two weekends on June 3-4 and June 10-11.

The leaders of two of the county’s most influential educational institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) this week.

Professor Anna Sutton, Provost of University Centre Shrewsbury (UCS), met James Staniforth, CEO and Principal of the newly formed Shrewsbury Colleges Group (SCG – Shrewsbury College and Shrewsbury Sixth Form College), at Guildhall on Wednesday 24 May. Senior staff members from both UCS and SCG were also in attendance.

A Shropshire based recycling and resale organisation has signed an agreement with one of the world’s leading high quality furniture wholesalers to sell its products.

The indefinite arrangement will offer Reviive customers SourceByNet’s Loma Living range at each of its stores in Oswestry, Shrewsbury and Telford, as well as online at www.reviive.co.uk.

This Sunday sees the fourth Shrewsbury Cycle Grand Prix take place in Shrewsbury town centre. The event brings amateur and professional racers to the town with several categories of races and it’s expected that many thousands of spectators will line the streets while the event tales place.

This professional and amateur cycle race event will be on a closed road circuit around the town centre.

This year’s event has been extended to include a longer circuit.

A team from a Shropshire house building company is preparing to tackle a unique charity challenge which will see their physical and mental skills tested.

Galliers Homes, based in Shrewsbury, is taking part in the Hope Challenge from June 9 – 11 when staff will compete against other construction firms from throughout the UK.

A Shropshire legal firm is offering a new service to help make selling a home easier and quicker.

The conveyancing team at Wace Morgan Solicitors, based in Shrewsbury, is providing a ‘property healthcheck’ for clients.

Residential conveyancing executive Sue Cornish, who has over 30 years’ experience in the sector, says that the service will smooth the home selling process.

Plans for growth and investment have been announced by one of Shropshire’s leading family-owned building companies.

Shrewsbury-based Galliers Homes, with its sister company Cameron Homes, which has its head office in Staffordshire, is set to increase total turnover to £70 million this year.

Around 100 members of staff from both businesses gathered at Weston Park for their annual conference to hear the plans for expansion.
