Proud Salopians Peter Bettis and Helen Rowlinson

While making the Christmas video, local couple Peter Bettis and Helen Rowlinson showed us how they most like to spend their evenings in Shrewsbury, with a walk to the Square, a film at the Old Market Hall, and dinner at one of their favourite restaurants.

Peter, who was born in Swindon, moved to Shrewsbury in 1967, and has never looked back. Although retired, Peter has plenty to keep him busy as President of the Shrewsbury Business Chamber, as a Shrewsbury Darwin Rotarian and a Dementia Friends Champion. He also enjoys “wrinkly days out” with ex work colleagues, walking, listening to music, walks along the river with Helen, and enjoying life to the full.

Helen, a Community Support Worker for the Shropshire Council, supports adults with learning disabilities in Day Services. She was born in Shrewsbury and has lived here all her life. “I have never considered moving away,” she tells us. An outdoors enthusiast, Helen enjoys running, walking and cycling, as well as eating out in Shrewsbury and meeting up with her friends. She is currently training to run a half marathon on her 65th birthday in January. Her favourite place in Shrewsbury is the Quarry, and she loves the historic buildings and restaurants in the town centre.

The couple will be spending their Christmas with friends and family here in Shrewsbury, enjoying the Christmas lights, shopping in Shrewsbury, and the carol services at the churches in town.
