Sat, 16th Sep 2017 The Hive

John Law, "one of the UK's most mature and versatile jazz pianists", is known for playing in many musical contexts, including electronica. But this band is acoustic, playing accessible melodic music arranged by Law from the jazz, pop and indie repertoire.

The now well-established Sam Crockatt is a brilliant contemporary player, full of feeling and with a nod to tradition, as he showed at The Hive a few years ago. Bassist James Agg and drummer Billy Weir can negotiate rhythmic complexity as easily as laying down the deepest groove.

The Hive is an arts and entertainment venue, as well as a charity working with vulnerable and disadvantaged young people, offering a varied programme of events, from cinema to live theatre, language classes to toddler groups, life drawing sessions to holiday workshops, open mics through to wrestl
