Shrewsbury International Cartoon Festival 2017

Sat, 22nd Apr 2017

Shrewsbury Cartoon Festival features exhibitions of cartoon art, a cartoon trail around town throughout April, and a day of cartooning activity, Cartoonists Live on 22nd April. Each year the Festival adopts a theme for cartoonists to interpret. The theme for 2017 is food and drink. The result is a lot of original cartoons showing a lot of different styles and humour gathered together in one place. The main exhibition is a selling exhibition of around 90 cartoons, which will be at Bear Steps Gallery.

During Cartoonists Live on 22nd April, around 40 professional cartoonists from around the UK and overseas descend on Shrewsbury and are set loose around the town to caricature and cartoon for the public. The Square in the centre of town is the main area of activity. The Cartoonists Live weekend offers the public the chance to see artists at work and the chance to have a go themselves. Cartoonists draw giant cartoons, create instant exhibitions, lead workshops and draw free caricatures.

Most activities are free.

Shrewsbury Square is at the heart of the town and remains an important space for the people of the town.
