Shrewsbury International Comedy Festival

Sat, 22nd Jul 2017 4:00pm to Sun, 23rd Jul 2017 4:00pm

The first ever Shrewsbury International Comedy Festival (SICF) is happening on one BIG weekend in July 2017.

Providing opportunities for top circuit acts to preview their Edinburgh Fringe Festival material, and giving a very select crowd of comedy fans an unmissable chance to see them, the festival will feature 16 performances, across 4 venues in Shrewsbury.

COMING TO THE OLD MARKET HALL*

SATURDAY 22 JULY

12.30PM - 1.30PM  KEITH FARNAN KIDOCRACY

Where Kids Rule the World… or at least a bit of it. KIDOCRACY is an interactive theatre show for children aged 6+, presented by KEITH FARNAN (Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow). Appearing as his alter ego, Brehon, an ancient Irish know-it-all, the show begins when children are told they are being given an island to rule. In just under an hour, they must elect leaders, write anthems, come up with rules that rock and deal with all sorts of crises because running the world isn't just all fun, fun, fun, there's stuff to be done as well.

4.15PM - 5.15PM  PIPPA EVANS JOY PROVISION! [WORK IN PROGRESS]

Olivier Award winner (as part of Showstopper! The Improvised Musical) and Chortle Award winner PIPPA EVANS comes to Shrewsbury to try out some new jokes and songs. Come have your fun levels optimised by "a comic genius" (Telegraph) and Radio 4 regular. As seen on Alan Davies: As Yet Untitled and Drunk History.

8PM - 9PM  MATT RICHARDSON SLASH

A lot has happened to MATT RICHARDSON since his last tour over four years ago. A lot of it is quite strange. Most comedians hope to win accolades, very few end up with Heat Magazines Weird Crush trophy. The show isn't going to change your political world view, but an hour of fast paced, quite rude stand-up and "High Wattage Charisma" (Guardian) from the "Hilarious and Charming" (The Mirror) host of Virgin Radio's Drive-time show, The Xtra Factor and Celebrity Haunted Hotel Live! and seen on Big Brother's Bit on the Side, Celebrity JuiceNevermind The Buzzcocks, and I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here Now!

SUNDAY 23 JULY

1PM - 2PM  PAUL 'SILKY' WHITE LIVE OUT LOUD [FAMILY SHOW]

A regular with Comedy Club 4 Kids, PAUL 'SILKY' WHITE looks like a grown up, but is not. He sounds like a gerbil, looks like a boiled egg and has been making people laugh since before your Mum and Dad were interested in beer/wine/tidying things up.  Contains songs (not rubbish) and talking down to adults. Bring one, if you can find one. He sold-out his show, not shoe, at the 2016 Edinburgh Fringe and picked up a 2016 British Comedy Guide Top Tip of the Fringe. Always playful, often musical, each and every show is different with this veteran of the international comedy circuit.

4.30PM - 5.30PM  ABANDOMAN's ROB BRODERICK THE MUSICAL IN MY MIND

Rob Broderick is a man with a dream - to write the world's biggest hip hop musical. Join him for a beautiful combination of hip hop, comedy and animation, in a show that's two parts Drake, one part Disney. With poetic flourish, Rob dances between playing the part of introspective rapper, pop culture commentator and all-out musical surrealist.
