Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery

An ambitious overhaul of the Music Hall has provided the 14th century Vaughan's Mansion with the stylish location to exhibit Shropshire and Shrewsbury's impressive history. The light atmosphere, selection of exhibitions and hands on activities will appeal to even the most museum-adverse kids. Collections within the museum include historically significant Roman artefacts, the bones of a Mammoth found in Shropshire and the 16th century Corbet bed with new hangings crafted by the V&A London.

Castle

Shrewsbury Castle and The Soldiers of Shropshire Museum

Lessons in history start at Shrewsbury Castle's gates, where Robert de Belesme surrendered to King Henry I in 1102. Kids can explore the lawns and Laura's town before entering The Soldiers of Shropshire Museum to view the regimental uniforms, weapons and other artefacts from the 18th century to modern military.

Library

Shrewsbury Library

Based in the distinguished building that housed Shrewsbury High School during Darwin's school days, the Shrewsbury library is a must visit. Before checking out your next favourite novel, visit the 18th century graffiti in the Old School Room. The children's section features fun seating areas for tucking into a good book and games to keep short attention spans entertained.
